Understanding your two product options
Probo Connect lets you sell print products in two ways. The difference comes down to one question: who decides the product's make-up — its size, material, finish and options — you or your customer?
- You decide the specification → use an API Product.
- Your customer configures it → use a Configurable Product.
API Product — you control the design
A normal WooCommerce product (simple or variable) linked to a Probo product code. You fix the size, material, and options, and you set the price in WooCommerce. The customer buys it, like any other product in your shop.
Use it for: pre-designed or branded items, and any product where the artwork and specifications are the same for every order.
Configurable Product — your customer builds it
A special product type that shows an interactive, step-by-step configurator on the product page. The customer chooses the size, material, finish and quantity, uploads their own artwork, and the price updates live based on their choices — calculated by Probo.
Use it for: made-to-order products where customers pick their own options and supply their own files.
Side-by-side comparison
| API Product | Configurable Product | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A standard WooCommerce product linked to a Probo product code | A special product type with a built-in configurator |
| Who chooses the options? | You — fixed size and options | The customer — size, material, finish, quantity, etc. |
| How is the price set? | You set it in WooCommerce | Calculated live by Probo from the configuration |
| Customer experience | A normal product page | An interactive step-by-step configurator |
| Best for | Pre-designed, branded or fixed-artwork products | Customisable products where customers choose and upload |
Still not sure?
Ask yourself: is the product's specification (size, material, finish, options) the same for every order, or does the customer choose it?
- Same for everyone — you set it → API Product.
- The customer configures it → Configurable Product.
Testing with Sandbox Mode
Before going live, use Sandbox Mode to test your setup without producing real orders:
- Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Probo Settings.
- Check Sandbox mode.
- Click Save changes.
When sandbox mode is active:
- A warning notice appears at the top of the settings page.
- Orders are submitted to Probo as test orders.
- Probo automatically cancels test orders — nothing is printed or shipped.
- You can test the full flow: product configuration → cart → checkout → order sync.
Remember to disable sandbox mode before going live!
